USONIAN
ARCHITECTURAL ORNAMENT
The
United States has neither a real name nor any indigenous architecture except
those that Frank Lloyd Wright gave us. The name Usonia, derived from "United
States of North America," was intended to establish the character of the
country through a new native architectural style. This style was based
on the concept of individuality, freedom, and quality of life, ideals that
have yet to be realized by the greater mass of US citizens and residents.
The following patterns are not all suitable for use as backgrounds, but
do illustrate the remarkable variety, purity, and honesty of Wright's work.
